MICHAEL Lee, the most controversial World Champion in history, will be signing copies of his new biography, Back From The Brink, at Peterborough on Monday, July 19.
Lee, a familiar face at the Showground who has worked closely with the Panthers team in the role of technical advisor for the past two seasons, will be meeting supporters and signing his book both before the home meeting against Poole and again during the interval.
It’s fitting that Poole are the visitors, as Lee was the Pirates’ No.1 and third in the World in 1983 before being banned by the Speedway Control Board the following year.
The 336-page book, written by Retro Speedway’s Tony McDonald, promises to be a riveting read as the ex-England, King’s Lynn and Poole No.1 bears his soul in recalling a stormy life both on and off the track.
As well as his speedway career, highlighted by his world title victory in 1980, two World Team Cup successes and back-to-back British titles in the 70s, a reformed Lee also reveals all about the darker side of his experiences . . . the ‘wasted years’, drugs, his run-ins with police and time spent in prison.
